Air Brake Trucks
Air brakes are the most important spare part in trucks, buses, trailers, and semi-trailers. George Westinghouse was the first person who developed; he patented air brake on March 5, 1872. Nowadays, each system of the USA has their own rules for vehicles with air brakes. The exams to get the license that let you operate heavy trucks are very difficult in every state, it is connected with the high risk of operating such kind of vehicles. The purpose of the article is to remind heavy truck drivers and people who would like to get commercial license the basic rules they should follow and never forget when they operate air brake trucks.
First of all, check that the minimum operating pressure of your air brake truck is not less than 100 psi (pound per square inch)
Second, make sure that it does not take more than 2 min for air pressure to move from 85 psi to 100psi
Third, check that the correct necessary cut-out governor pressure for the air compressor is between 120 psi and 135 psi.
Forth, check water in the air brake system. Air brake trucks do not like water especially in cooler climates. Ice can block air from reaching the brake system; it can lead the wheel to lock up. However, nowadays, many modern trucks have automatic drain valves to prevent it.
Most modern air brake trucks use a dual brakes system. These vehicles have two systems in case one will fail. For example, Anti-lock brakes can be found in tractor-trailer rigs and work much the same way as ABS systems found in passenger cars. Air brake valve is another component of any lock brakes drivers should regularly check.

My ABS air brakes are locking up on a Semi Trailer?
this is on a semi trailer with air brakes, the left front brake keeps locking up, when obviously its not supposed to. Does anyone know what may be causing this, and if so how can I fix it?
I would check to make sure there is no leak or kink in the air line. I don't know alot about it, but from my understanding, semi trailer brakes lock up automatically until they have air pressure to release them as a safety precaution.
