How to Clean Gold-Plated Silver Jewelry
Many people prefer gold-plated silver jewelry because they are less expensive than original gold jewelry. These types of jewelry have a little gold as an overlay on them. This is also known as gold vermeil. It is more or less like gold paint. Since a thing layer is used on silver jewelry, there is more chance of wearing off quickly. In other words, the surface of these types of jewelry is very delicate; therefore extra caution is needed while cleaning gold-plated jewelry. You must use caution that it is not scratched.
Before cleaning gold-plated silver jewelry, you must collect some essential items such as paper towels, cotton cloth, dish liquid, bowl, water, soft toothbrush and gold polishing cloth.
First wipe the jewelry calmly with a wet cotton cloth to get rid of surface dust and dirt. Arrange a bowl. Put some warm water in it. You should use little warm instead of hot water. You can put only some drops of dish soap that doesn't cause a film. You must not bring into play antibacterial soap. Avoid using automatic dish liquid because it holds abrasives.
Then put your gold-plated jewelry in this water. Allow it to soak the solution for 10 minutes. Then remove the jewelry out of the pot. Since the vigor of dirt will be loosening, you can easily remove them by using a soft toothbrush. Now smoothly rub in the tight places on the item.
Place the ornament under cool running water for few minutes to clean the soapy water. Then you should dry the jewelry right away. Make use of a paper towel to keep away from water stains or else mineral deposits from the water.
Wipe the ornaments very delicately with a clean cloth that is prepared for polishing gold. It will help to restore the glittering of the gold and your jewelry will look sparking new.
