Bmw 5 Series Gets Interior Upgrades From Johnson Controls
BMW, with its top of the line BMW performance chip did something more to its 5 Series it did not only redesign the Series but it also upgraded its interior. The Bavarian automobile automaker has sought the expertise of Johnson Controls, one of the world’s leading suppliers of automotive interior systems, electronics, and batteries.
Johnson Controls has provided the BMW 5 Series with a completely new developed door panels. It makes use of innovative machinery and process that enables it to apply for the first time a two-color foil to a single-component substrate made of natural fibers. This new process assures cost-effective production and high-quality finish.
At present the two-color components of automotive interiors are achieved by means of producing multiple parts before applied to one another. This process is not perfect and leaves seams and gaps visible plus it also makes it difficult in some cases to observe strict weight limitations although it is not that so with the BMW 5 Series.
The interior upgrades done on the BMW 5 Series have proven to be a challenge for engineers. It was likened to gift wrapping using an asymmetric object with striped gift wrap paper and making sure that the line would end up parallel and even along the edges. Aside from that, the film is stretched when it is applied on the substrate, which usually distorts the color demarcation line and when this happen additional effort is required to bring the film back to the color demarcation and the film to its proper alignment. In order to ensure a high-quality finish and harmonious overall effect, exacting tolerances must be observed especially where the two colors meet on the door panels.
Johnson Controls make use of a fully automated production process, tools, and machinery advances to ensure that the color demarcation lines stay within the exacting tolerances at all times.
BMW 5 Series in production at China
The BMW 5 Series that is currently in production at the Chinese BMW plant in Shenyang is also being fitted with the innovative door panels from Johnson Controls. The company will also supply the eight-inch display for the rear seat entertainment system for the long-wheelbase version of the BMW 5 Series that is also being produced in China. Johnson Controls will also provide the integrated HomeLink garage door opener worldwide as optional equipment.

Help with choosing an aftermarket camshaft and headers for a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro V6 3.8L?
I am looking to gain a little bit more performance and sound from my V6. People tell me to sell it and get a V8 but personally, I enjoy getting over 20 to the gallon.
Ideas I have bounced around include swapping for an aftermarket camshaft and adding headers.
If I were to do the cam, what all(if anything) do I need to replace with it? (i.e. heads, lifters, valves, valves springs)
Also, will an aftermarket camshaft hinder my gas mileage much?
What kind of cam should I go with if I want to be quick when I need to be, and fuel efficient while just cruising?
What kind of power gain can I expect?
Would headers be a bad idea and if not, should I go with shorty's or long tubes?
I already have a 80 series flowmaster cat-back system installed and wondering if the headers and cam will add that deep, bad ass exhaust sound I'm after?

Good for you! Stick with the six. Plenty of power, and it isn't too big to appreciate.
Like everyone says, figure out exactly what you want before you spend your money.
What cam change you want depends on what kind of driving you will be doing. If you intend on melting your tires at every opportunity, then gas mileage isn't as important as power. If you want to be able to drive past everyone spending their paychecks at the gas pump, then maybe an economy or RV cam will be your best bet.
Camshsafts 'program' the peak operating range of your engine, along with your engine management computer. If they fight each other, you lose.
Different cam makers grind their cams a little differently from each other, even if they fall in the same 'class' .
A full race cam will not work at all well in a car driven on the street.They "idle" at very high speeds, and the power band is extremely high, too.
A competition cam is also a bad idea for the street. Better power than many others, terrible mileage.
Probably the best cam for your needs is an RV grind cam. They have lots of low speed power, and try to boost your economy at normal highway speeds.
The minimum things to replace with a cam are the lifters, and quite probably the ROM chip in your computer.The cam maker should be able to recommend one.
You do need to make sure that your new cam won't make your valve springs don't bottom out, (bind up) or you'll be shoveling engine pieces out to make room for your new engine.
If you do go for a wilder cam, you can install lifters that have a high leakdown rate, like Rhodes lifters. They provide a more manageable idle and a wider power band for your motoring pleasure.
