Worklight Work
Chroma Key Lighting?

Im looking at getting some sophisticated lights for green screen any ideas besides work lights.Such as http://www.amazon.com/Northern-Industrial-Portable-Halogen-Worklight/dp/B000KKJTA2/ref=pd_bbs_sr_5/105-5893786-0666832?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1191415373&sr=8-5

1. i am assuming you are going to use a modern ccd camera. 500 watts per fixture is WAY overkill.

2. do NOT use on-the -floor fixtures, if the subject moves their hand close to the wall you will get an upward shadow!! if a shadow ever occurs you want it to be in the natural downward direction.

3. do use a fixture that has a reflector and puts out more light in the main direction and tapers to either side. no difusers (or wire bales either) can go over the light. The fixture is put up high and main beam pointed at the floor just in front of the green screen wall. This way, the top of the wall is closer to light but off-axis, so as you come up the wall, the light intensity stays about the same. You are just using the top half of the lamp output, so if the bottom spills light on the subject, that part can be blocked off with a barndoor. If you have access to a theatrical lighting outlet, ask for a wall light.

4. use just 2 fixtures to light the wall, one right one left of the subject. no more, no less.

5. the best way to get the wall lamps positioned correctly is with a waveform monitor of a camera shooting the entire wall. Use the ire or luminence only setting, line mode to check eveness right to left. Then frame mode to check eveness top to bottom.

6. Of course the subject is lit separately according to your taste. Keep light high to make shadows fall down and avoid spill light on the wall.
