How to Remove Polish & Wax Residue From Plastics & Trim
It is quite common for plastics and trim to become contaminated with polish or wax residue from surrounding paintwork if they have not been protected. This residue gets into the grain and if left to dry will leave unsightly white marks all over the trim that can be awkward to remove and let down the overall look of a freshly polished and waxed vehicle.
Ideally, it is best to prevent this contamination from occurring in the first place by protecting the trim with a suitable masking tape, or by simply being more careful with the application and working of polish & wax products.
The contamination can be removed with a little effort and the right products however. The most effective product to use to lift off the residue is a diluted all purpose cleaner. You can use a designated plastic/trim cleaning product but it may struggle to fully remove the residue whereas an all purpose cleaner will effectively cut through the residue whatever polish or wax product may have left it.
Working in a cool shaded area the affected area should first be pretreated with the cleaner and left to dwell to allow it to sufficiently soak into and soften the residue. Next, a stiff bristled detailing or nail brush should be used to agitate the area, this is very important as the bristles of the brush help to effectively lift the residue from the grain of the trim whereas simply wiping it over with a towel after applying the cleaner will not.
Once sufficiently agitated, the area should be wiped over with a damp micro fibre towel to remove the loose residue. Depending on the severity of the contamination you may need to repeat the process in order to fully remove any stubborn residue.
After cleaning, the area should be dried off and then treated with a suitable plastic/trim dressing product. This restores the area making it look like new again and also helps to protect it from the weather and any other possible future contamination. The dressing should be applied via a sponge or micro fibre applicator pad and spread evenly over the surface ensuring all areas are treated. The area should then be buffed over with a clean, dry micro fibre towel to remove any excess product and give it a uniform, natural looking finish.

which car wax does not leave white residue on plastic trim?
I am looking for a wax that will not leave white residue on the black plastic trim other than Turtle Wax's "Ice". I perfer to use a buffer when waxing my car.

meguiars #7 is a polish anyways, not a wax
i know theres others out there besides ice, but dont know them off hand
just tape up the areas with painters tape before you wax, it what everybody else does
